Defining your Spam Settings

If you are using an @topproducer.com account, 8i can filter out spam from incoming email and direct it to the Spam folder in your Inbox email application. By default, spam filtering is turned off. You can turn the spam filter on and adjust the sensitivity level following the instructions below.

If you are currently using an external POP3 email account and want 8i to filter out spam, you can forward all emails from your external program to an @topproducer.com account. More Info:triangle.gif

Warnings:

  • Since mail in the Spam folder will be deleted automatically after 15 days, check the Spam folder regularly to ensure you are not missing important email from clients. Legitimate emails may get filtered into the Spam folder, and it is not possible to set whether specific email addresses are legitimate or spam. Checking the Spam folder regularly will ensure you are receiving all legitimate emails.

  • If you are currently using Top Producer 7i in addition to Top Producer 8i, once the Spam feature is enabled in 8i, you will not be able to access your spam folder items from 7i (which does not have this feature).

To define spam settings:

  1. Open the Spam Settings tab. How?triangle.gif

  2. Click the Edit Spam Settings link.

  3. In the Enable Spam Filter section, select Yes to set 8i to filter spam.

  4. In the Set Filter Sensitivity section, set the spam sensitivity. You need to experiment to find the best settings. Select a setting and then evaluate how much spam you are receiving and if legitimate emails are being filtered as spam, and then adjust accordingly. Choosing a higher setting will result in a lower number of spam emails, but may also increase the likelihood that legitimate emails will be filtered out.

  5. Click Save Spam Settings.

Spam will be filtered out of your incoming email and sent to the Spam folder, based on the sensitivity you specified. Remember to check the Spam folder frequently to ensure you are not missing important email from clients.
